Lock Your Meds Idaho!

medsPrescription drug abuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the United States according to the Office of National Drug Control Policy. In 2010, seven million individuals age 12 or older were current nonmedical users of prescription drugs.

Idaho has experienced a 250% increase in drug induced deaths since 2000. In Idaho in 2011, over 20% of high school students reported taking a prescription drug without a doctors prescription. These youth overwhelmingly reported that they obtained these drugs from family members or friends. Your medicine cabinet, nightstand, purse could be their drug supplier. Be Aware. Don’t Share.

National Wellness Week!

In 2011, SAMHSA and FDA/OWH launched the first National Wellness Week as part of SAMHSA’s National Recovery Month. National Wellness Week takes place during the third week of September. During National Wellness Week, we aim to inspire individuals, families, behavioral health and primary care providers, and peer-run, faith-based, and other community organizations to improve their health behaviors, while also exploring their talents, skills, interests, social connections, and environment to incorporate the Eight Dimensions of Wellness into their lives as part of a holistic lifestyle.

The CADCA 50 Challenge!

At CADCA, we’re always trying to find ways to contribute to the solution, which is why we designed the “CADCA 50 Challenge”. Now in its fifth year, the CADCA 50 Challenge is an effort to get prescription drug abuse and over-the-counter (OTC) cough medicine abuse on the radar screen of families across the country. To participate in the challenge, just host a town hall meeting, or another type of educational event, about BOTH prescription drug abuse and OTC cough medicine abuse, during National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month (NMAAM) in October.
